Two of my stories were published between Christmas and New Year’s. (I also had another story accepted that week.) The stories were “The Online Auction” and “Loss,” which is the one I want to write about today. It was published by Literally Stories.
“Loss” is a story about a man experiencing different types of loss: divorce, unemployment, and the death of a pet.
The story is two-thirds autobiographical. At the time “Loss” was written, I was unemployed and had possibly lost a cat. Most of my life I have dealt with depression and anxiety, so being able to deal with those in a story was very satisfying. A friend of mine who is a therapist thought “Loss” was excellent.
This was the only story I wrote while unemployed for a year and a half. I would sit at work and come up with ideas that I never wrote, then when I had a lot of time to write (between applying for many jobs) I barely wrote anything, of course. I really like how “Loss” builds to its climax.
Please give it a read if you haven’t. I hope you enjoy it.
